Branson Shuts Out Republic

Posted: 11 Sep 2012 09:44 PM PDT

Branson’s one first-half goal was all they’d need, but they added three more in the second half for good measure, on the way to a 4-0 win over Republic.

The Tigers stayed close through the early minutes of the second half, but couldn’t get the equalizer. A second Branson goal at the 30-minute mark took the air out of Republic’s sails, and a third goal at the 17-minute mark put the game away. Branson scored their fourt goal in the final minute.

Volleyball Varsity vs Kickapoo 072For two games, Republic’s smaller lineup mostly neutralized the size and strength of the Kickapoo Lady Chiefs. But Kickapoo asserted itself up front during the decisive third game to earn the victory, running away down the stretch to win it, 26-24 19-25 25-15.

Republic and Kickapoo went to the limit in game one, with Kickapoo seizing the game and the momentum at the finish. In game two, Republic jumped to an early lead, then led Kickapoo back into it, before pulling away to even the match.

Volleyball Varsity vs Kickapoo 054In game three, though, Kickapoo used its dominating front line more effectively. Republic was unable to make the defensive adjustment.

Lexi Birlew led Republic with 10 kills. Brandy Glessner had seven digs against the powerful Kickapoo offense. Sarah Kreul contributed 29 assists.

Republic falls to 3-2. They’ll be back on the court Thursday at home against Reeds Spring.
