Republic Golfers Take 2nd at Silo Ridge Posted: 04 Sep 2012 09:48 PM PDT

Fast Start Fizzles in Home Loss to Glendale Posted: 04 Sep 2012 09:12 PM PDT
The Lady Tigers looked unstoppable early, behind the powerful hitting of Lexi Birlew. Birlew had 15 kills to lead the Lady Tigers. Sarah Kreul contributed 38 assists. But unforced errors down the stretch cost Republic the match. Late in the third game, the Lady Tigers served into the net twice in a row. They also lost two points when they pushed the ball too long out of bounds. “Second and third game, we just gave too many points away,” says head coach Piper Wright. “Missed some crucial serves, and when the points were really tight, we just didn’t come through to make the play.”
Kreul, Sherman and Alex Botkin had three service aces each. “I’m glad it’s early in the season that we’re getting this loss. Glendale was our first loss last year, too, and we ended up turning it around and had a great season,” says Wright. “Nobody likes to lose, and hopefully it puts a little fire under us to get the next one. Next up for the Lady Tigers, they’ll travel to Mountain Grove Thursday. – The JV team beat Glendale 25-15 25-14. The freshman Lady Tigers also won, 25-18 25-10. |

Michaelis Drives In 3 to Lead Republic Past Branson Posted: 04 Sep 2012 07:39 PM PDT Rachael Michaelis drove in three runs in the first two innings to help the Lady Tigers beat Branson on the road 5-0 Tuesday. Stephanie Eckhoff pitched a complete-game shutout for Republic, allowing just five hits. She struck out one. The Lady Tigers broke on top in the first when Eckhoff scored on a Michaelis ground ball. They scored two more in the second when Michaelis singled to left field, scoring Caty Eby and Lauren Strobel. Republic added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to win it 5-0. Eckhoff runs her record to 4-1, and lowers her ERA to 0.85 this season. Republic improves to 4-1 overall. —- In the JV game, Republic jumped on top 6-0 after a half an inning, and went on to win 9-0.
